We all know that the sun is skin’s biggest enemy and that application of sunscreen throughout the year is a prerequisite for beautiful and healthy skin and a helpful assistant in the prevention of serious, sometimes even deadly, deceases.
Prolonged exposure to UVA and UVB rays is extremely dangerous for children’s delicate skin, which has the greatest need of protection.
Of course, in order to act effectively, sunscreens must be applied correctly. Here are some general recommendations. Choose a sunscreen specifically designed for children. Their skin is much more delicate and vulnerable than that of adults, so it needs maximum protection. Kid’s sunscreens provide a broad protection and contain hypoallergenic ingredients.
- Although for adults the SPF factor is usually determined by the phototype of the skin (its natural pigmentation) or the degree of browning, dermatologists recommend to always use a sunscreen with maximum SPF – 50 for children.
- Apply the formula to your kid’s skin at least half an hour before going out. Repeat every two hours on the beach, even if it says it is waterproof.
- Apply sunscreen every time you take a walk with your child, whether in the mountains, on a summer holiday or playing in the park.
- During the summer take extra precautions – hats, sunglasses, gloves, cotton breezy clothes in bright colors that repel the sun rays.
- Avoid sun exposure at peak hours, and if you can’t escape it, look for shady areas and continue to reapply sunscreen.
- In the sea season, apply sunscreen immediately after exiting the water, as it washes cosmetics off and exposes the skin to danger.
So, how many of you, honestly, apply sunscreen on the face, the hands and all other expose parts of your child’s body? Maybe it’s time to reconsider and fill your cosmetic kit with the necessary products. For a child’s health in the early years of his life depends on you, and at a later stage – on the habits that you’ve helped him/her build.
